John Russell is a senior at Cobden High School. While at Cobden he has been class president and a member of the Beta Club, FFA, and National Honor Society. He is also on the baseball, soccer, and basketball teams. John plans to attend Price College of Business after high school.

On Danielle Stevens and Charlotte Clover at Country Financial: I had no idea how many various types of people they must insure and how complex an insurance agent’s job is on a daily basis. I was really surprised by the love they had for what they did. They both mentioned how much it means to them to be able to help people.

On the Alumni visit: This gave us additional sets of eyes so that we could get more outside viewpoints on our business. This is important as it makes sure we are not overlooking aspects that are important for a business.

John on the Union County Courthouse--Getting to learn about the different components of the courthouse and how they work together was a great experience. I really enjoyed seeing how each department had their own tasks to perform and several of them involved going through other departments.

John on Andy Sisulak--Seeing the variation in jobs was good as it goes to show how you are never locked into one job. You always have the ability to do different things based off of experience you gain elsewhere.

John on The Gathering Place--The passion that the ladies had for bringing this unique business into the community is what struck me the most about our visit. They really had a desire to help people learn about their genealogy and I found it very compelling.

John on Ken Frick--I would have never guessed that he used so many statistics to operate his business. He seems to have perfected his use of demographics and which areas to target which has grown his business substantially.

John on Trepstart Day--At Trepstart we got to hear from Jeff Platt, owner and creator of Sky Zone. The thing that stuck with me the most was how he said you have to stick with your gut. He said if you put in the work that sticking with your gut is the next most important step.

John on Clay Mitchell--Clay Mitchell had a brilliant way of explaining to us exactly what it is that he does. He had the whole operation of Robinson Fresh mapped out for us so that understood how the business worked. This really gave me a greater understanding of what Robinson Fresh does right here in Cobden.

On Peaceful Pet Resort: Mrs. Becky Duty has a tremendous passion for what she does and it is very admirable. I enjoyed being able to see the kind of operation she runs as well as getting to meet a few of her clients.

On the Youth Success Rally--We got the chance to meet other CEO students with interests similar to ours and learn about their CEO programs as well. I thought the speakers were all very good and presented useful information.
