On Tuesday, August 24, our Union County CEO class had the pleasure of sitting down with Bill Ecker - State Farm Agent at Pizza Villa — a State Farm insurance agent with decades of business experience and no shortage of great stories to share!

Bill's presentation centered on the power of first impressions and body language. He walked our students through the subtle cues — eye contact, posture, even which direction someone's toes are pointing — that shape whether we come across as engaged and confident or easily forgettable. Drawing on lessons from Joe Navarro's What Every Body Is Saying, Bill explained how finding genuine common ground with someone can turn a first meeting into a lasting connection. As one student put it, they're ready to "fill their pockets with sand," trusting that these small lessons will turn into gold down the road.

Bill also shared personal stories from his own path — studying in Japan, getting married, starting his career in a different state, and eventually bringing that experience home to invest in the community that raised him. For several students, this was a powerful reminder that growing up in a small, rural community is a launching pad, not a limitation — and that big opportunity is available to those willing to go after it.

Our students also appreciated Bill's candor in sharing more colorful stories from his life, which underscored just how much unspoken communication shapes our interactions — in business and beyond.
